Order Picker Certification Training

Order Picker and Turret Trucks are unique types of forklifts. They are classified as Class II, like Stand-Up Reach trucks, but they do not share the same characteristics or functions as a Stand-Up Reach or any Counterbalance Lift. Order pickers allow operators to walk around the platform and pick products while elevated. Turret Trucks elevate the operator but only use forks to select and move pallets. Both require fall protection, and this training includes fall safety and rescue plans similar to those needed for aerial work.

Most powered industrial trucks, or forklifts, operate with the operator on the ground. Order pickers and turret trucks elevate the operator to the height of the product. This introduces additional hazards, making fall protection mandatory on these types of lifts. This training program will review the safe operation of order pickers and turret trucks, including how to inspect and wear full-body harnesses, develop a rescue plan, and use wire and rail guides for trucks equipped with these features.

While there are forks on the order picker, they are typically used for the pallet that will be used to build the shipment, and operators move around the platform while elevated. Turret trucks elevate the operator, but the forks are used more traditionally to pick up pallets from the racks. Turret trucks have a unique fork movement process called a "swing reach," which allows the lift to stay straight in the aisle. Only the mast and forks move, enabling very narrow aisle operations.
